Today I have a card idea that I wanted to share with you all to use up those leftover scraps. I recently saw Jennifer McGuire make a gift card holder card using this technique and I really wanted to give it a try. You can see her card that inspired me here.
This gift card holder card is a great way to incorporate some scrap designer series paper to make your own card background. The designer series paper used here is the recently retired Best Dressed 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. I combined it with sentiments from the June 2020 Paper Pumpkin kit. I normally wouldn’t showcase items from Paper Pumpkin, but this kit will be available for customers to purchase on August 11, 2020!
Some of you may have a few scraps of designer series paper leftover and wonder what to do with those little strips. Well I am here to say…don’t throw them out! You can use those strips and combine them with coordinating cardstock and make your own background!
Here are my tips for creating this fun background:
- Pick 1 designer series paper pattern to start with.
- Choose 2-3 coordinating colors. (I wouldn’t do more than this otherwise it may be too busy looking.)
- Make sure that your strips are varying widths but that the like strips are the same size. For example: if you decide to make one of your designer series paper strips 1/2″, then make all of the designer series paper strips 1/2″ wide.
- Cut as as many strips as needed for your background. I would say you will need at least 4-5 of each color/pattern depending on how wide you make your strips and how many colors you choose to work with.
- For an extra fun touch, pick 1 of the colored cardstock strips and use like color ink (or Versamark Ink) and stamp a sentiment across it. You can also leave them blank, it’s up to you!
