Today I have a fun sketch for you to try out. You cut the pieces all at the same time and you have everything you need to make 3 coordinating cards at one time! I recently saw this card by Fiona Bradley and was immediately inspired to try my hand at it as well.
The sketch comes from the Just Add Ink blog. They have challenges every week that anyone can participate in. I was a bit late to participate in this one, but I still wanted to try the technique out anyway. I love the results!

The only special tool I used was a guillotine cutter. I have a Swingline 12″ Cut Length Guillotine Trimmer (like
this one) and love it. It’s so satisfying to chop paper with it. The key to making this card is to cut all three of your card pieces to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ then stack them together so that they line up and cut them with your guillotine at the same time so that the background “puzzle” pieces will all fit together as they should.
I decided to pair Magenta Madness and Just Jade cardstock with the rose paper from the 6″ x 6″ Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper. The sentiment is from the Heartfelt Photopolymer Stamp Set, I thought the sentiment paired beautifully with the paper. I finished it off with some In Color Enamel Dots for an extra pop of color and some texture.
Below you can see a close up view of each of my cards…
Note: You might have noticed that the left edge of the card above is a little off. That’s because on this one I tried to apply the background directly to the card base. I don’t recommend doing this as you may end up not being able to line your card background up correctly. Use the Whisper White layer to make your background and then apply that to your card base, you will have much better results like I did with the other two cards below.
(Don’t forget to see the complete product showcase at the bottom of this post)
Cut 3 of each of the following to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″:
- Magenta Madness
- Just Jade
- Whisper White
- Flowers for Every Season 6″ x 6″ DSP
(3) Magenta Madness Card Base: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
1. Layer your Magenta Madness, Just Jade and Flowers for Every Season DSP on top of each other and cut with your guillotine cutter to the shapes shown in the cards above.
2. Adhere your pieces to the Whisper White layers using Stampin’ Seal+. If your seal rolls back you can use your Silicone Craft Sheet and roll your Stampin’ Seal+ on it to get the seal to come forward in the dispenser.
1. Position the sentiments from the Heartfelt Photopolymer Stamp Set on to your block.
2. Stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on to scrap pieces of Whisper White Cardstock.
3. Use the second largest stitched circle from the Stitched Shapes Dies and die cut the sentiment.
1. Fold your Magenta Madness Card Base in half and burnish with your Bone Folder.
2. Use Tear & Tape to adhere the background mat on to the Magenta Madness Card Base.
3. Trim the card as necessary with your guillotine trimmer so that the edges are clean.
4. Adhere the In Color Enamel Dots to the sentiment circle as shown and pop it up on your card using Stampin’ Dimensionals and you’re done!
