Timeless Tropical Florida Sunset Card

Today’s card is one that I made for my customers that ordered enough to qualify for my monthly free gift in April. Isn’t this just gorgeous?! I live in Central Florida and this just reminds be of a beautiful Florida sunset, it’s so perfect for my customers.

The inspiration for the card is kind of a mash up between a card I saw from Australian Stampin’ Up demonstrator Kayla Renee (you can see her card here) and a video I saw on how to make sunsets by Wendy Cranford (you can see her video post here).

Between these two posts, I knew I wanted to mash them together and create this fun, beautiful Florida sunset card using the Timeless Tropical Cling Stamp Set and the Sponge Brayers (you know I love the Sponge Brayers so much!).

Here’s a close-up so you can see all of the beautiful details…

Video Tutorial! I made a video to show you how I made this card. The trickiest part (which isn’t really tricky at all) is making the sunset background. See the video here:

For this sunset/sunrise, you’ll only need 3 colors:

Card Recipe:
(Don’t forget to see the complete product showcase at the bottom of this post)

Cut Your Paper:
Basic Black Card Base: 4 1/4″ x 11″
Whisper White Layer: 4 1/8″ x 5 1/8″
Make Your Background:
1.  Use your Sponge Brayer and apply Melon Mambo ink to the top half of your Whisper White Cardstock.
2. Change out the sponge and now apply Daffodil Delight to most of the white section on the bottom half of your paper. Leave a little strip of white in the middle.
3. Change out your sponge again and now apply Mango Melody to the center of your paper. You will notice that the Melon Mambo and Mango Melody change to a darker orange color when they are layered.
4. Apply more ink as needed until you get the desired effect.
5. If you have the Melon Mambo at the top of the card, this is a sunset. If the Melon Mambo is at the bottom of the card, this is a sunrise. Decide which version you want before you begin stamping your palm trees.
6. Ink up the palm tree stamp from the Timeless Tropical Cling Stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamp as shown in the photo.
7. Pour a tiny bit of Frost White Shimmer Paint onto a clear block. Make sure you have some water in the tip of your Aqua Painter and then use your Aqua Painter to lift the shimmer paint and flick onto the card background. I highly recommend putting your background layer in a spare cardboard box. If you don’t use a box to do this you will have shimmer paint all over the place.
8. Set aside to dry.
Assemble:
1. Stamp the hello sentiment rom the Timeless Tropical Cling Stamp set in Melon Mambo ink.
2. Run the sentiment piece through a die cutting machine using the tag die from the Ornate Frames Dies.
3. Run a blank piece of Basic Black cardstock through a die cutting machine using the same tag die from the Ornate Frames Dies.
4. Stick the sentiment tag a bit crooked on top of the Basic Black tag and secure together using Mini Glue Dots.
5. Tie a bow out of the Linen Thread and secure to the hole in the tags using a Mini Glue Dot.
6. Once your background is dry, secure the tags to the background using Mini Glue Dots.
7. Adhere a bunch of Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of your background and adhere to your Basic Black card base and you’re done!
