Pals Blog Hog – Retirement Fun Fold Party!

Welcome to the Pals’ Blog Hop! We’re so glad you’re here because we made some great projects for our Retirement Fun Fold Party  – showcasing our favorite products from the Holiday Catalog that will be leaving us forever. You may be starting the hop here or coming from a previous Pal’s blog. Either way, you’ve come to the right place. You’ll find the full line-up below to help you move, or “hop” along from Pal to Pal. *Be sure to scroll at the way to the bottom of the post to see the full PDF instructions as well as the products used to make this card.*
I don’t know about you but I am mad for plaid! I absolutely love anything plaid! I get so excited when fall rolls around and I start seeing all of the beautiful plaid patterns will all of the different color combinations. Something about it just makes me so happy. That’s why I was so excited when I saw that the Holiday Catalog had the Wrapped in Plaid 6″ x 6″ Specialty Designer Series Paper. I am really sad that it’s retiring but I’m hoping that maybe they’ll come out with a different plaid next year, who knows, maybe they’ll even do a fall plaid series, wouldn’t that be fantastic?!
Today I knew I wanted to make something that would wow and surprise. I made a Christmas Shutter Card using a few items that are going to be retiring soon. The retiring items used in this project are the Wrapped in Plaid DSP and the Shaded Spruce/Gold 3/8″ Striped Ribbon.
This was my first time making a shutter card. I did a Pinterest search and was able to find some directions from Rachel Tessman at Stamp Your Art Out. You can see her post here. I used her basic shutter card instructions and made the card my own. I also figured out a much easier way to make the shutter piece, after I put it all together of course. Isn’t that always how it works out?!
My easy trick to making the shutter pieces is:
The square is the second largest square diecut from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. I love these dies so much, I use them all the time!
I just love how this card turned out! I wanted to make the inside a special surprise and was able to accomplish that by using the soon to be retired Shaded Spruce/Gold 3/8″ Striped Ribbon. I used this ribbon a lot, it is so versatile and I am just amazed by how well this finished off my “ornament” on the inside of my card.
Here is a closeup of the ornament. I really hope that you enjoyed this card. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  1. Love this card, Jen! And I feel exactly the same about the plaid. Only reason I am not sad about this DSP retiring is that there will be more in our future, LOL! I have never attempted the shutter card but you have encouraged me. TFS!

    • I hope you do try it Katy, it was much easier than I thought it would be. I hope they bring out some more plaid next year, that would be great!
